Q: Congratulations Erick! I hear you won a scholarship to MIT
and you sound truly excited. So
what is so special about MIT
(Massachusetts Institute of
Technology)?
A: Thank you Carl. Well, after
hearing that MIT is one of the best universities
for engineering, I jumped at the chance to meet with the director of student affairs at a conference where I presented my research that was conducted in Miami. After expressing my interest for the program and submitting my application, I was granted a position that I could not refuse.
Q: Sounds exciting Erick. In order to encourage and help students who use Students Ratings what does it take to win a scholarship?
A: Focus, attitude, and determination are what is required to make your goal.
- First, you must aim or have the goal in mind. If you see where you want to go or what direction, you will be able to take the first step to take you closer.
- Second, your attitude needs to be positive, because that will lead you into the third aspect.
- Third: If you have determination, you'll not sway and be able to reach your goals no matter what.
A: Well Carl, I come from a single parent home with two other siblings. My mother brought us to Miami from Latin America to provide us with the opportunity to a better life than that which was provided in Brazil. I was just a normal kid that tried hard towards something I wanted. If someone told me before I found this site, that I would actually be going to MIT and Harvard to do research, I wouldn't believe them. I really hope that my input can help others, and show them that all they need is the right mentality, because if I can do it, anyone can.
Q: What else do you recommend for students to receive scholarships like this?
A: I definitely feel starting early and being assertive. It's never too late, and there are scholarships for everyone of all different backgrounds. There are even scholarships for people that are left handed!!! So, there are many opportunities!!!
